We stock and install BFT access control components throughout Fort Worth, with most access control installation jobs running between $450 and $1,400 depending on the system type and what failed. Same-day or next-day service is available for most common failures, and every job gets a written price before we touch anything. Here’s the typical pattern we see: a homeowner drives up, keys in the code, and nothing happens. Or the gate swings open for every vehicle whether they have a code or not. That’s usually the moment the access control board, receiver, or keypad has given up, and the gate has either locked everyone out or stopped checking who’s coming in at all.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
BFT builds access control into most of their swing and slide gate operator lines, and the components usually aren’t interchangeable between model families. The gear that works on a BFT Phobos swing operator won’t necessarily talk to a Deimos slide operator without the right interface board. The compatibility gotcha we run into most often in Fort Worth is this: older BFT operators from the mid-2000s used a 433 MHz receiver frequency, while newer production runs shifted to 868 MHz. An owner orders a replacement remote or receiver online, plugs it in, and nothing pairs. The label on the side of the operator tells you more than the manual half the time. Look for the model number stamped on the metal plate, then match the receiver for frequency, not just brand. When you’re dealing with BFT specifically, we lean toward OEM boards and receivers over aftermarket equivalents. BFT’s control boards have proprietary firmware that third-party clones don’t always replicate cleanly, and a board that mostly works is a board that fails again at the worst possible time.

Signs Your BFT Access Control Installation Is Failing
- Keypad accepts the code but the gate won’t move. The relay on the BFT control board has burned out or the board isn’t sending the trigger signal to the operator. The keypad is fine; the brain behind it isn’t.
- Gate opens for every car, no code required. This almost always means the access control board has defaulted to free-exit mode or a short in the loop detector circuit is telling the board there’s always a vehicle present. It’s a security problem, not a convenience feature.
- Remote works from 10 feet but not from the street. The receiver’s antenna connection has corroded or the receiver module itself is degrading. We see this after heavy rain seasons in Fort Worth when moisture gets into the housing.
- Access control works intermittently, especially after rain or humidity. A cracked housing or failing seal is letting North Texas moisture reach the board. Intermittent today means dead within a few weeks.
- The keypad display is lit but unresponsive to any input. The membrane or circuit behind the keypad has failed. This one’s especially common on BFT keypads that sit in direct Fort Worth sun all afternoon; the heat breaks down the internal contacts over time.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what we tell Fort Worth homeowners before we start: a BFT access control board replacement typically runs $350 to $700 parts and labor. A receiver or keypad replacement is usually $150 to $400. Full access control retrofits, where we’re adding a new keypad, receiver, and reprogramming the board, land between $800 and $1,400. What drives the range is which BFT model you own and whether the failed part took anything else down with it. Texas heat and the dust we get off the open plains shorten access control board life compared to cooler climates; we routinely see boards in Fort Worth fail at the eight-to-ten-year mark when the same board might run twelve years in a milder climate. Every replacement includes the part, the install, reprogramming of existing remotes and codes, and a written guarantee good for one full year. The price is written down before we begin, and it doesn’t move.
DIY or Call Us?
Access control work sits in a gray zone for do-it-yourselfers. Swapping a handheld remote is easy; swapping a control board is not. The honest split is this: you can safely check power to the operator, look for tripped breakers, and visually inspect the keypad housing for cracks or water. What you shouldn’t do is open the operator cabinet and start probing the board without knowing which terminals carry 120V and which carry low-voltage signal. BFT boards are sensitive, and shorting the wrong pair of terminals means buying the board twice. There’s also the programming side, matching frequencies and re-teaching remotes, which frustrates owners more than the physical swap. If you’ve done the basic checks and the gate still won’t respond to the keypad or remote, call us at (817) 840-7067 and describe what’s happening. Tell me what it’s doing wrong, and I’ll tell you exactly what it needs. Lonnie Burke has been doing exactly that for years.
FAQs
In our experience across Fort Worth, a BFT board lasts eight to ten years before heat and moisture begin causing failures. Coastal or cooler climates can stretch that to twelve years or more, but North Texas summers accelerate component wear.
Sometimes. Bad solder joints, blown capacitors, and corroded terminals are repairable if the board hasn’t suffered a catastrophic short. But board-level repair for BFT components is often a temporary fix; when we think a repair won’t hold, we’ll say so before you spend money on it.
Most access control board, receiver, or keypad replacements in Fort Worth take between one and two hours on site. Full system retrofits with new keypad and receiver can run three to four hours including programming and testing.
We stock common BFT receivers, keypads, and interface boards on our service trucks, along with parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems. If your specific BFT model needs a board we don’t have on hand, we’ll have it ordered and rescheduled within a few days, and we’ll tell you that before any work begins.
If your BFT access control has failed or is acting up, call our Fort Worth crew at (817) 840-7067. You’ll get a live person on the phone, a straight answer about your options, and a written price before any work starts.
