If you’ve got a DoorKing gate with a cracked hinge, a snapped weld on the frame, or a bent bracket that’s pulling the whole gate out of square, we stock the fabrication components and carry the welding know-how to fix it. Installed welding and fabrication on a DoorKing system in Fort Worth typically runs $220 to $780, depending on whether we’re repairing a single bracket or rebuilding a gate frame section. Most repairs are done same-day when we have the part steel on the truck, which we usually do.
Here’s how Fort Worth owners usually find us: the gate starts dragging on one corner, or it makes a groaning sound every time the opener cycles. You look underneath and see a cracked weld at the bottom hinge, or the upright that holds the motor bracket has pulled loose from its anchor. The gate still moves, so you think about putting it off. Then one morning it won’t close all the way, and now you’ve got a gap big enough for a dog to get out or worse. In Rivercrest and Tanglewood and over by Marine Creek, we’ve seen this exact failure pattern hundreds of times. An operator arm that’s welded to a failing section will tear itself loose eventually. Waiting turns a $300 fabrication fix into an $800 gate rebuild.
Carver Gate Repair Fort Worth is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with DoorKing, which means we match parts to what’s actually on your gate without being tied to one manufacturer’s catalog. Lonnie Burke runs the crew here, and he’ll tell you the same thing he tells everyone: “Tell me what it’s doing wrong, and I’ll tell you exactly what it needs.”
Which DoorKing Models This Applies To
Welding and fabrication comes up most often on DoorKing slide gate systems, since those gates carry more weight over a longer span and every inch of sag concentrates stress on the welds. The common series we work on around Fort Worth are the DoorKing 9000, 9100, and 9300 slide operators, along with the 6000, 6002, and 6003 swing models. The 1601 and 1602 barrier gates have their own bracket set, usually the boom-to-housing mount, that fails in similar ways.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha that matters: the mounting pad and frame bracket dimensions changed between the 6000-series and the 6300-series swing operators, even though both are “DoorKing swing openers.” If you order a replacement bracket based on model number alone, you can end up with a part that doesn’t line up with your existing holes. The way to check is to measure the center-to-center distance between your mounting bolts. On the 6002, it’s 7.5 inches. On the 6300, it’s 9 inches. We’ve had customers bring us parts they bought online that were off by exactly that inch and a half.
For the welded gate frames themselves, Fort Worth is hard on steel. Summer heat expands the metal and the cold snaps in January cause it to contract. Over five to eight years, that cycling works on the factory welds until the material around them cracks. That’s not a DoorKing quality issue. It’s what heat does to cantilevered steel in North Texas. The fix that lasts here is to cut out the cracked section, fishplate a reinforcing plate over the joint, and re-weld both sides. A bead over the top of an old weld fails again inside of two years. We know because we’ve been called out to fix other people’s patches.
On OEM versus aftermarket: for the brackets and structural tabs, we typically use milled steel aftermarket equivalents that meet or exceed the original thickness spec. For the operator mounting components that include machined details, we’ll go OEM DoorKing because the tolerance on those parts is tighter and the aftermarket copies are inconsistent. You should know which is which on your invoice, and we write it down.

Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- Visible crack at a hinge or bracket weld. This is the tell that needs no diagnosis. A crack through a weld is not going to heal. The gate is putting load on a joint that’s already failed, which means the surrounding material is taking more stress than it was designed for.
- Gate sags at the free end and drags on the guide roller. On a slide gate, the counterbalance section behind the operator is usually what’s hanging. The frame wasn’t originally carrying that much cantilever load after a weld let go. The drag puts extra strain on the motor and gearbox.
- Loud groaning or popping when the gate moves. That sound is metal flexing against metal at a failing connection. Every cycle is working the crack wider. If it pops on open and again on close, you’ve got a specific weld or bolt tab that’s rocking in place.
- Operator mounting bolts tearing out of the gate frame. This one shows up on swing gates more than slides. The welded mounting plate that holds the operator arm to the gate gets loose or the plate itself tears away from the frame tubing. When the operator pushes at an angle against a compromised plate, the plate loses that fight.
- Gate stops short or reverses mid-cycle. The DoorKing controller doesn’t know the frame is bent or sagging. It only knows the motor is drawing more amperage than it should. When a failing weld adds drag, the safety circuit trips and the gate reverses. You might think it’s a board problem. It’s usually a metal problem.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Fort Worth, expect to pay somewhere between $220 and $780 for DoorKing welding and fabrication repairs, and here’s what moves the number. A single broken hinge tab that we can cut, prep, and re-weld in place is the low end. A gate frame section that needs to be cut out and re-fabricated with new square steel tubing is the high end. The material cost difference is modest, maybe $40 to $90 of steel. What you’re paying for is the time to remove the section, fit the replacement, get it square, and weld it both sides, then paint the repair to match.
Every quote is a written number before we touch a tool. That’s the way it works at Carver Gate Repair Fort Worth, and it’s written into the Garrison Standard that every location operates under. You’ll see the part cost, the labor cost, and the total, agreed on before we start. If the repair fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s a written guarantee on every job, not a verbal one.
We also stock welding consumables, bracket kits, and raw steel stock for common DoorKing repairs on the truck. No sending you away for a week while we order a piece of 2×2 steel tube.
DIY or Call Us?
Welding a gate frame is one of the repairs where we tell people to call somebody who does this every day. It’s not about gatekeeping. It’s that a gate under load has energy stored in it. Cut the wrong member and the tension can release in a way that moves the gate or its carriage with real force. Plus, the weld needs to be structurally sound, not just pretty, because a gate section that fails while the opener is driving it becomes a projectile that the safety edges won’t stop in time.
What you can do before calling is useful. Look at where the gate is cracked or bent and take a photo. Note whether it’s a slide or swing. Check the model number plate on the operator. Then call us and describe it. That information tells us which truck to bring and which steel to load. If a weld repair is outside what should be done without experience, we’ll tell you, and we’ll give you a written price for doing it right. Call (817) 840-7067 and you’ll get a person who knows gates, not a voicemail box.
FAQs
A properly done weld repair, with a reinforcing plate where the original failed, typically adds another 7 to 10 years of service in North Texas weather. Factory welds on gates that are 6 to 8 years old are the ones we see failing most often. We’re replacing other people’s failed patches regularly, so how long the repair lasts depends on how the repair was executed.
In most cases, yes. We cut out the cracked section, weld in a new steel piece, and plate the back side for reinforcement. Complete frame replacement only becomes necessary when the corrosion has compromised the entire length of the member, which happens more on salt-exposed coastal properties than in Fort Worth. Call (817) 840-7067 and send us a photo if you’re not sure which one you’ve got.
A single bracket or hinge repair usually runs 1 to 2 hours. A frame section removal and re-fabrication is more like 3 to 5 hours, including letting the paint flash before we leave. We don’t bill for the time we spend waiting for paint to dry. We bill for the work.
We keep common bracket tabs, hinge plates, and raw steel stock for DoorKing slide and swing gates on the truck in Fort Worth. For specialized machined operators components, we maintain inventory at the shop and can usually have them installed within a day or two. We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls, because we work on those openers as well.
