Get your free estimateElite Access Control Installation: The Fort Worth Owner’s Guide
Elite access control installation in Fort Worth typically runs $850 to $2,400 installed, depending on whether you’re replacing a failed keypad, adding a card reader to an existing Elite operator, or wiring a full entry system with a telephone intercom. We stock Elite-compatible keypads, card readers, receivers, and pedestal mounts on our trucks, and most replacements go in the same day we show up. Most Fort Worth owners call us after a keypad goes dead, a card reader stops reading, or an intercom still rings but won’t open the gate. The fix is usually more straightforward than the phone call that set it up.
If your Elite gate opens fine manually but won’t respond to the keypad or remote, the problem is almost always in the access control wiring or the receiver, not the motor itself. That’s the piece we’re going to walk through here so you know what to expect before anyone steps onto your property.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite builds slide and swing gate operators under several model lines, and the access control wiring is fairly consistent across them. The most common Elite gate operators we service in Fort Worth are the SL-3000 and SL-4000 slide units, plus the CSW-200 and CSW-300 swing arms. Their older MiMo and MiMo-II lines still show up on gates installed in the 2000s, especially in neighborhoods like Rivercrest, Mira Vista, and along the Camp Bowie corridor. If your Elite operator has a beige or gray control board with a terminal strip labeled “OPEN,” “COMMON,” and “CLOSE,” you’re working with standard access control wiring no matter which model sits behind it.
One compatibility gotcha with Elite equipment: the Miracle One and EL-100 series keypads are wired for 12-volt DC output, while newer Elite boards send 24-volt AC to the access control terminals. Hooking a 12-volt keypad to a 24-volt circuit burns out the keypad circuit board inside a week. We check board voltage before we touch anything. For parts, we use OEM Elite components when the board is under active use daily, and quality aftermarket equivalents from DoorKing or Linear when the OEM part is backordered. Both get the same written guarantee, but we’ll tell you which one we’re putting in before the work starts and note it on the invoice.

Signs Your Elite Access Control Installation Is Failing
Access control doesn’t fail the way a gate hinge fails. It’s quieter. Here’s what we see on Elite systems across Fort Worth when a keypad, card reader, or receiver starts giving out.
- Keypad lights up but won’t open the gate. The keypad is getting power, but the relay inside isn’t closing. That relay is rated for roughly 100,000 cycles, and a gate used 30 times a day hits that number in about nine years. The fix is a new keypad, not a new board.
- Card reader beeps but the gate stays put. Elite card readers use a Wiegand output to talk to the controller. A dirty or corroded Wiegand wire, common with Fort Worth’s humidity swings, drops the signal. The reader thinks it sent the credential. The board never hears it.
- Gate opens from the remote but not the keypad. The remote works on a separate receiver. Keypad dead, one remote fine, means the keypad itself is the problem, not the operator. We change the keypad, not the motor.
- Intercom rings inside the house but the person at the gate can’t hear you. This is almost always a failed speaker in the intercom master unit or a break in the shielded cable between the house and the pedestal. Sometimes it’s fire ants in the pedestal. We see that more than you’d think in Fort Worth.
- Everything works until it rains, then the gate stays open or won’t close. Moisture in a junction box or a cracked wire nut is shorting the OPEN or CLOSE circuit when the ground gets wet. This one’s a wiring repair, usually a half-hour fix once we find the box.
Replacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what Elite access control installation typically costs in Fort Worth, with the parts and labor broken out so nothing about the price is a surprise.
- Elite keypad replacement: $425 to $650 installed, depending on whether we’re mounting a surface box or flush-mounting into an existing pedestal.
- Card reader replacement: $550 to $800 installed. This includes verifying the Wiegand wiring and re-adding credentials if the reader loses its card database.
- Full access control retrofit (keypad plus receiver, wired to an existing Elite operator): $850 to $1,400 installed, depending on wire run length and whether the gate has a pedestal already built.
- Telephone intercom with gate release: $1,200 to $2,400 installed. This one runs higher because of the wire between the house and the gate and the programming time.
Every one of those numbers is a written price agreed on before we open a single panel. That’s the way we’ve worked since 2008 and it doesn’t change because a job gets harder once we’re into it. If the part we install fails inside a year, we come back and fix it free under our 365-Day Done Right Promise. That’s in writing on every invoice.

You can check a few things safely without opening the operator cabinet. Walk out and look at the keypad: does it light up when you press buttons? Check the pedestal for ants or obvious crack damage. Confirm the breaker for the gate is on. Those three checks tell us a lot before we even dispatch a truck.
What you shouldn’t do is open the Elite control board and start testing wires. The board runs live 120-volt AC into the transformer, and the capacitor on an Elite slide operator holds enough charge to knock you flat even with the breaker off. Access control wiring doesn’t forgive a wrong guess. If the keypad lights but the gate won’t move, call us at (817) 840-7067. Lonnie Burke and our crew will pull the panel, check voltage with a meter, and show you exactly what failed before we write the ticket.
FAQs
Most Elite keypads last 8 to 12 years in the Fort Worth climate. Direct afternoon sun on an unshaded pedestal shortens that, and we’ve replaced keypads in the Summer Creek and Walsh Ranch areas at the 6-year mark because the membrane buttons broke down in the heat. Call (817) 840-7067 and we can tell you over the phone whether it’s a simple keypad swap.
Occasionally, if the damage is a burned relay or a swollen capacitor, we can repair the board for less than a replacement costs. If the board has lightning damage or a shorted transformer, replacement is usually the honest answer. Either way we show you the damaged part before anything gets ordered.
A keypad or card reader swap takes 45 minutes to an hour and a half on most Elite operators in Fort Worth. A full retrofit with a new pedestal mount can run half a day. We tell you the expected time on the phone when you book the call, and the price is written before we start.
We keep the most common Elite keypads, card readers, and receivers on the truck, along with parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems. If it’s a board we don’t carry, we can usually have it in hand the next business day for Fort Worth addresses. Call (817) 840-7067 and we’ll check stock while you’re on the line.
