Elite keypad and intercom repair in Fort Worth typically runs $185 to $420 installed, and in most cases we can complete the swap the same day we diagnose it. The part fails in one of two predictable ways: the keypad membrane wears out from UV and thumb pressure, or the intercom circuit board corrodes from the humidity swings we get here in the DFW area. If you’re punching in the code and getting nothing, or the audio on your intercom has gone scratchy and weak, that’s usually the whole story.
What surprises most homeowners is that these failures almost never happen suddenly. The keypad buttons get stiffer, the intercom gets quieter, and eventually the gate just ignores you. By the time you’re searching for a repair, the part has likely been degrading for months.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
We service Elite keypads and intercoms across the SL-3000, SL-5000, and Miracle series lines, plus the older RSW and gate opener models that are still running all over Fort Worth. Elite used several different keypad housings across these series, which is the exact compatibility gotcha that a generalist usually misses. The SL-3000 keypad uses a surface-mount faceplate with a pigtail harness, while the SL-5000 version bolts to the pedestal with a different mounting pattern. They are not interchangeable, even though they look close enough at arm’s length.
The reliable way to identify what you have, without pulling anything apart: open the keypad housing and read the label on the back of the board. Elite prints the model prefix there, usually something like “KP-3” or “IC-4.” If that label is gone, we match by the mounting screw spacing and the wire count at the harness. On the OEM versus aftermarket question, we’ll be direct: Elite parts are the safe call for the control board and the intercom module. For the keypad itself, the aftermarket options we stock are drop-in replacements that hold up as well as the original in Texas sun, at about 40 percent less than the OEM price. We show you both options before you commit to anything.
Carver Gate Repair Fort Worth is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Elite, but we stock their parts and work on their systems every week.

Signs Your Elite Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
- Keypad does not respond, or only some buttons work. The membrane contacts under the buttons wear unevenly, so the “1” and “9” keys usually go first because they get the most use in gate codes. If you have to press a button twice or hit it at an angle, the membrane is done.
- Gate opens on its own, or the code works intermittently. This one sends people looking for a ghost. What’s actually happening is moisture getting into the keypad housing during Fort Worth’s storm season and shorting a contact. The board is not failing intermittently by mood; it’s wet.
- Intercom audio is scratchy, faint, or one-way. The intercom speaker and mic are exposed to the elements behind a thin grille. North Texas dust plus humidity does its work inside that housing, and the microphone capsule corrodes until it stops picking up sound at all.
- You hear a click, but nothing moves. The keypad is fine. The relay on the intercom or keypad board is not sending the signal down the line to the operator. A meter test tells us which side of that circuit is dead in about ten minutes.
- LED on the keypad stays lit or flickers without being touched. That LED is driven straight off the board. If it’s flickering, you have a failing component or a short in the harness. Ignoring it usually finishes off the whole board within a month or two.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s the honest price picture for Elite keypad and intercom repair in Fort Worth.
| Job | Typical Range |
|---|---|
| Elite keypad replacement (aftermarket part) | $185 – $260 installed |
| Elite keypad replacement (OEM part) | $275 – $350 installed |
| Intercom module replacement | $290 – $420 installed |
| Both keypad and intercom in one visit | $380 – $520 installed |
Those prices include the part, the labor, and a written price before anything gets opened up. What moves the number: OEM versus aftermarket on the keypad, how far the gate is from the house, and whether the existing wiring is still usable. Older Fort Worth installs sometimes have wire runs that are too far gone to trust, and we’ll tell you that before we quote the job, not after. Every keypad or intercom repair from us carries our full-year written guarantee. If it fails inside that year, we come back and fix it at no charge. No argument, no second invoice.
One thing that sets us apart from the generalist electricians and handymen who “also do gates”: we routinely carry Elite keypad parts on the truck. When we show up to diagnose, in most cases the repair happens that same visit. You’re not waiting two weeks on a part order for a board we could have had on the shelf.
DIY or Call Us?
If all you did was swap a keypad, you’d be dealing with low-voltage wiring behind a simple cover plate, and honestly some homeowners do it. But here’s what goes wrong when an owner tries to save the service call. First, the wiring colors on aftermarket Elite replacements don’t always match the original harness, and crossing a pair can send voltage back to the control board on the operator. That turns a $220 keypad swap into a $500-plus board replacement. Second, even a correct swap doesn’t tell you why the original failed. We’ve seen behind more than one DIY keypad job a water intrusion issue that killed the new part within six months.
These are low-voltage components, so there’s no serious shock hazard. The risk is to your control board and your time. If you’re comfortable with a meter and the manufacturer’s wiring diagram, you can handle a keypad. On the intercom side, though, just don’t. The intercom ties into the phone line or network on newer models, and a wrong connection there creates problems a residential keypad never will. If you want a Fort Worth technician to show up with the right part and a written price, call us at (817) 840-7067. We answer the phone and tell you straight whether it’s worth a service call or a part you can order yourself.
FAQs
In Fort Worth, a properly sealed Elite keypad lasts 5 to 8 years on average. The intercom module usually fails in the 4 to 7 year range. Full western-facing sun and no tree cover will push both toward the low end, because the heat accelerates the membrane breakdown and the UV does a number on the faceplate seals. If you’re in Rivercrest or another neighborhood with mature tree canopy, you’ll typically get closer to the high end before it fails. Call (817) 840-7067 and we’ll tell you over the phone what’s realistic for your specific install.
Sometimes, but not often enough to count on it. A loose wire at the terminal block is a repair. A corroded terminal is a repair. But a dead membrane or a water-damaged board is a replacement, and that’s the case in roughly 8 out of 10 failed keypads we see in Fort Worth. We can usually tell you which one you’re looking at in a ten-minute visit, and the diagnosis call is straight work at a straight price.
A keypad swap takes 30 to 45 minutes from opening the housing to testing the gate open and closed twice. An intercom module is a 45-minute to one-hour job, most of it spent carefully re-landing wires into the new board. Both in one visit is done in under two hours. You don’t need to be home for the entire window, but we do a function test at the end and need someone to confirm the audio sounds right before we call it done.
Yes. We keep Elite keypads, intercom modules, mounting hardware, and harness adapters on our Fort Worth service trucks as a matter of routine. That’s the whole point of running a gate-only fleet. Our guys also work on LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems, so if we find a mixed-brand install at your house, the parts are likely already in the truck. One more thing. We follow what Lonnie Burke calls The Garrison Code on every job: show up when we say, with the right parts, write the price down before the work, and leave the gate working and the site clean. Tell me what it’s doing wrong, and I’ll tell you exactly what it needs. That’s the whole job, and we don’t complicate it.
